Holidays On the Farm Trails (Dec. 17th, 2018 - Jan. 1, 2019)
The holidays are here! Friends and family are reuniting, nostalgic holiday tunes are playing on the radio, and the smells of pine and warm spices are wafting from our homes.
Find below our recommendations for the best holiday activities along Sonoma County's Farm Trails. If you have not yet registered, do so here and you will receive the full list of participating destinations and offerings in our interactive online map. Don't forget to check the map for timing and details of all activites.
OUTINGS WITH FRIENDS
•Taste old world ciders, natural wines and shop for hand-blown wine glasses and gifts at Old World Winery Visit their 800 lb pig and chickens.
•Check out Horse & Plow Winery where you can enjoy a "Farm Trails" flight featuring local cheese & bread with their local organic wines & ciders ($12-$18). Shop for art, ceramics & seasonal flowers.
•Enjoy the treasure hunt and do some holiday shopping at Antique Society, Sonoma County's largest antique collective featuring over 125 dealers under one roof. Open every day!
•Step out of the kitchen and into Backyard Forestville to be treated to a seasonal meal featuring the best of Sonoma County's bounty.
•The Union Hotel in Occidental will keep you energized all day long: from 6am pastries and coffee, to lunch, bruschetta appetizers and family style dinners. Shop for seasonal pastries and holiday gingerbread cookies.
•Visit Monte-Bellaria di California for a fragrance and aromatherapy demonstration at this lavender estate. Learn about bees and taste estate grown olive oil. Plus, shop for Organic lavender products and olive oil for holiday gifts.
OUTINGS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
•Join Tara Firma Farms in Petaluma for a free farm tour Saturday & Sunday at 11 am where you can learn all about heritage breed turkeys and even purchase one for your holiday table. Be sure to visit their farmstore and shop for your holiday meal, too.
•West of Petaluma, McEvoy Ranch is open weekends through December 23rd for holiday shopping days. Enjoy mulled wine, and hoilday morsels while shopping for olive oil, natural beauty products, wine and holiday wreaths sourced from the Ranch.
•If your family's holiday tradition includes hunting for that perfect Christmas tree, then check out Santa's Trees (pictured above), serving up one more weekend of hot cider and holiday cheer. Garlock Tree Farm will also be open Dec. 23 & 24, offering carriage rides, a petting zoo, & a holiday shop.
FARMSTANDS & ARTISAN FOOD SHOPS
•Visit Bohemian Creamery to taste your way through fabulous cheeses to find the perfect additions to your holiday menu.
•Nightingale, a craft bakery featuring old world, naturally leavened whole grain breads with shop-milled flours from heirloom and organic grains. Get a loaf of traditional panettone or gingerbread for your holiday table!
•Shop the delicious Green String Farm, open everyday from 10-5. They grow by the motto “50% for humans, 50% for nature,” maintaining an important balance between crops grown for human consumption and crops grown for soil improvement.
•Saturday, Dec. 22 is last chance to visit Flatbed Farm and Oak Hill Farm's Big Red Barn before they close for the season. Both located in Glen Ellen, they sell delicious and sustainably grown produce perfect for your holiday meal, plus handmade wreaths, pantry items, honey and more.
•Tierra Vegetables, famous for their heirloom beans and corn, has a delectable farm stand selling fresh produce including sugar pie pumpkins for your homemade dessert, as well as chile salts and chile jam, hot sauces, cornmeal and more.
•Stop by her LaLa's Jam Bar to shop for holiday gifts, jam for the holiday table and learn about food preservation.
•Pick up a pie at Kozlowski Farms, one of our founding Farm Trails members. They are offering Farm Trailers a coupon as well.
• Soap Cauldron is open weekdays 10-4, except Christmas Day, at their white barn in Petaluma. Shop their natural lines of artisan soaps and skincare handcrafted in small batches in the centuries-old tradition with gourmet oils, butters, essential oils and botanicals.
