Weekend Along the Farm Trails: Rural West County Trail
With over 30 locations participating in Weekend Along the Farm Trails, how do you choose your own adventure?
If you are a lover of rural country roads, redwoods, and hold an appreciation for the preservation of land and agricultural heritage, the Rural West County Trail is the one for you!
Take a self guided tour of the world famous Occidental Arts and Ecology Center (pictured above), a 40+ year old hand-cultivated oasis featuring gardens along rolling hills and a certified organic nursery (Saturday & Sunday; 10am-4pm). A mile down the road, learn how one woman converted her property in the redwoods into her dream permaculture farm and animal refuge at Shanti Permaculture Farm (Saturday & Sunday; Tours at 12, 2 & 4 pm). Drive down into the quaint village of Occidental and stop in for a free Antipasto or cold drink from our friends at the historic Union Hotel (Open Saturday & Sunday). Animal lovers will enjoy a visit to Icssoma Farm, a sanctuary for rescued horses (Saturday Only; Tour or Demo offered every hour). This West County farm tour would not be complete without a visit to Ratzlaff Ranch (Sunday Only; 10am-4pm) to enjoy U-Pick apples on a warm Fall day and meet the lovely family who have been part of this thriving ag community for 4 generations!
